About

Ras Hanno Photography

I am a qualified freelance photographer with over thirty years experience , during this time I have developed a passion for social documentary photography.

My experience includes photo journalism work for two leading African Caribbean newspapers, namely the Jamaican Gleaner and the Voice newspaper, I have also commissioned work the Commonwealth Institute Library and coordinated photographic initiatives to include an African Caribbean women’s photography group in Coventry, West Midlands.

Additionally , I have worked jointly with fellow photographers in carrying out exhibitions such as “Working on Cars” , which celebrated 100 years of the motor industry in Coventry, I also coordinated the delivery of a project entitled “Better Must Come” , a photographic documentation of three generation of African Caribbean people living in Coventry. Both projects were exhibted at the Herbert Art Gallery Coventry as well as other local and national venues

My photographic work is partly influenced from my experience of working as a practitioner of community engagement in a diverse range of community settings over the past 20 years. This experience has enabled me to see how communities has evolved during this time, as well as providing me with the skills and abilities in interacting and documenting people and their environments.

I hold a BA degree in African and Caribbean Studies, coupled with my own experience this has driven me to visit my ancestral roots with a view of creating a portfolio of work depicting the history and culture of the Black Diaspora and aspects of African Societies.
